Commuun

Established in 2005 by Kaito Hori and Iku Furudate, Commuun has held exhibitions during the Paris Women’s Ready to Wear Fashion Week ever since.

KAITO HORI. Born in Nagoya, Japan in 1977, Kaito became interested in vintage clothing as a teenager. After graduating from college, he moved to New York to attend F.I.T., while splitting his time working as assistant stylist, buyer and assistant designer. In 2000, he moved to the Netherlands where he studied at Arnhem Academy of Arts, the art school renowned for its eccentric approach to design. During his study, he started working for Balenciaga in Paris. The two sides of fashion spectrum gave him invaluable experience in designing as well as in teamwork. His graduate collection was chosen for ITS3 (International Talent Support 3) in 2004.

IKU FURUDATE. Born in Yokohama, Japan in 1976. As a child, Iku started to make clothes herself and started to grow interest in fashion. To study fashion academically, she attended Bunka Fashion College. After graduating, she went further to study at Central Saint Martins in London, learning broader approaches to design. The graduate collection at Central Saint Martins was chosen for Hyeres Festival 2002, earning international recognition. In the same year, she moved to Paris to work at fashion establishments such as Sharon Wauchob.
